No wind to race at Youth America’s Cup
Published on September 22nd, 2024
Barcelona, Spain (September 22, 2024) – It was a lot of nothing today at the Youth America’s Cup as early morning clouds delivered rain to the area before clearing in the afternoon, leaving mere zephyrs across the racecourse. With the minimum wind limit of 7.5 knots never reached, there was no racing for the AC40s teams.
The schedule for today had been for the final two races in Group B (Invited Teams) to be completed first, ahead of a planned four races for Group A (America’s Cup Teams) who, to date, have completed four races in their 8-race opening series.
As it stands at the moment, with the top three of six teams advancing, the Group A teams from Italy, USA, and Great Britain occupy the podium positions whilst amongst the Invited Teams – Sweden, Australia, and Spain – are in the automatic qualification places for the 4-race Semi-Finals.
Today’s schedule will be pushed to tomorrow with the forecast models showing an improved weather window in the early afternoon as the airflow stays in the south, with some conflict about its exact settled direction, and potentially building to 11-15 knots later in the day.
SCHEDULE FOR TOMORROW MONDAY 23 SEPTEMBER
Group B Race 7 scheduled start is 14:10
Intention is 2 races for Group B followed by 4 races for Group A
