The 2024 offshore calendar in California includes the 60th annual Little Ensenada Race on October 4. The 65-nautical-mile course runs from San Diego, CA to Ensenada, Mexico and has evolved over the decades with changes to the start, finish, and even the post-race festivities.
This year’s course remains consistent with recent editions, beginning south of the harbor entrance and finishing about two nautical miles west of the Coral Hotel. The start location was updated in previous years to minimize postponements under Point Loma, allowing for better wind conditions. A one-mile weather leg has also been added, ensuring a clean start and allowing boats to spread out rather than get caught in bad air.
The finish line was moved to avoid the notorious evening wind lull near the Ensenada, often allowing boats to finish hours earlier than in the past. This year, for the first time in years, the virtual finish line is replaced with a race committee boat on station.
On October 6, there’s a 15-nautical-mile race around the picturesque Todos Santos Islands, concluding with lively gathering at the Coral Hotel.
