U.S. Adult Sailing Championship

Published on September 27th, 2024

The 2024 U.S. Adult Sailing Championship attracted ten teams for the Mallory Trophy on September 25-27 in Detroit, MI. The first day of racing was canceled due to heavy winds from Hurricane Helene’s outer bands, with the 10-race series held over two days in Flying Scot boats. The father-son duo, Jeff and Bradley Whiteway (above), won four and posted all top five finishes to take the title.

“It’s my second time sailing a Flying Scot so I’d like to thank all of my coaches at the Coast Guard Academy because dinghy sailing is dinghy sailing and all the same stuff applies with tactics and speed,” said Bradley Whiteway.

“It’s great sailing with your son,” said Jeff Whiteway. “We had lots of different conditions over the course of this regatta and we were pleasantly surprised at the teamwork we had, being just the second time sailing together.”
