Spain claim Optimist team race title

Brazilian Arthur Back is dominating the 2024 Optimist World Championship being held for 225 competitors on December 7-14 in Mar del Plata, Argentina. National teams vied for the Team Racing World title on December 10-11 with Spain emerging as the undisputed champion, defeating Singapore in the final.

After a preliminary round involving 42 teams, the top 16 advanced to the final stage. This group included Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Croatia, Denmark, France, Great Britain, Greece, Italy, Malta, Peru, Puerto Rico, Singapore, Slovenia, Spain, and Turkey.

In the light winds, Spain quickly established dominance, winning every race and securing a direct spot in the final. Argentina and Brazil were eliminated by a strong Singapore team, which ultimately faced Puerto Rico in the semifinals. Puerto Rico secured the bronze medal.

In the best-of-three final, Spain defeated Singapore 2-0. The Spanish team was composed of Mateo Carbonell, Joan Domingo, Iker Mugica, Marta Mansito, and Amalia Coll.
