A financial manager defrauded an English sailing club for military veterans of almost £70,000 to feed a gambling and drug habit she developed after getting divorced, a court heard.

A Royal Navy admiral said members of the Hornet Services Sailing Club, whose patron is the Princess Royal, were left in disbelief after Lyndsey Howell, 39, their “valued” financial manager of ten years, plundered the club’s accounts for her own use.

Over 22 months, Howell, a mother of two, defrauded the non-profit organization, founded 60 years ago by naval officers, to support her gambling, alcohol, and cocaine habits. – Full report
