Angry diver at Paris 2024 Olympic venue

Published on October 4th, 2023

As translated from French sailing publication Voiles et Voiliers, a diver seriously injured two sailors with his harpoon after allegedly being hit by their boat.

This occurred October 1 in Marseille, the venue for sailing at the Paris 2024 Olympics, alongside a hundred other crews during the Vire Vire Banque Populaire Méditerranée regate organized by the Société Nautique de Marseille.

According to the diver, he was hit by the boat, resulting in a dispute, but according to the people on the boat, there was no collision and the crew tried to warn him of danger due to the many boats around him.

Then the diver seems to have lost the pedals completely: after unsheathing his harpoon rifle, he shot a first passenger, who was painfully pierced at the shoulder. The second, just behind, was given the spear at the lung. Both have survived the attack. – Full report
