Too many boaters are unprepared

This is a story about a “deal,” one of those unstated guidelines that communities generate. Nowadays, we really need to state the unstated because we are seeing too many recreational boaters failing to live up to their end of the bargain.

The deal is this: We go to sea in boats and with skipper and crew well prepared for the possible range of challenges that may unfold. Then, if we get into trouble, we can call on search-and-rescue services.

I would suggest that too many boats are going to sea with either the skipper or crew or the boat itself unprepared to meet ordinary challenges. – Full report
