Who will host the next America’s Cup

Published on March 28th, 2025

Not long after New Zealand won the America’s Cup in October 2024, the host of the 37th edition – Barcelona, Spain – declined repeating. Uncertainty surrounding the event, always a weakness, would continue again. Long gone are the days when the winner brought the trophy home. Now it is about selling the venue.

With the Kiwi team declaring a June 2025 deadline to reveal the location, Italy and Greece are believed to be strong contenders challenging Auckland to host the next America’s Cup in 2027. It’s not clear if they are ahead or behind Auckland in the running, or which city is at the heart of their bids. The Italian team Luna Rossa are based in the Sardinian port city of Cagliari.

Any bid would likely need to top the reported figure (close to $75.7 million USD) Barcelona paid for hosting rights. – Full report

Defender New Zealand will work with the Challenger of Record from Great Britain to organize the 38th America’s Cup. Anticipated to be held in 2027, the two teams have agreed on some details with the venue to be confirmed by June 2025 after Barcelona declined hosting another edition.
