The owner of a sailing yacht that ran aground on Johnson’s Reef in 2023 is suing the Boy Scouts of America, claiming that a child was allowed to steer the vessel at the time the accident occurred, according to a lawsuit filed in V.I. Superior Court.
Attorney C. Jacob Gower is representing the plaintiff, Libbie Oliver, a resident of the British Virgin Islands who owned the 42-foot sailing yacht Amokura.
Oliver chartered the vessel to the Boy Scouts of America for use in the Sea Base summer sailing program in the U.S. Virgin Islands in 2023, and the Boy Scouts organization recommended a captain and insurance policy, according to the complaint. – Full report
