Hitting pause button to break record

Published on September 10th, 2025

The Swiss team which developed the SP80 kiteboat to break the world speed record is hitting the pause button. After two years of fine-tuning in Leucate (France), the weather conditions in 2025 did not allow the record to be broken during their first official record campaign. The plan now is to attain additional investment and continue September 2026 in Walvis Bay, Namibia, which is the notable venue where the record they are seeking to beat – 65.45 knots averaged on a 500-meter course – was established.
