Innovation, accessibility, performance

The Olympic Sailing Program incurred significant change for Paris 2024, and the same ten events will be held in Los Angeles. But after that, more change seems likely as four events were placed under review for the 2032 Olympic Sailing Competition.
Notably, these events – Mixed Dinghy (470), Mixed Multihull (Nacra 17), and Men’s Kite and Women’s Kite (Formula Kite) – do not have strong cases for retention, with kiting on the hot seat due to the emergence of wingfoiling.
A step for that to happen occurred at the 2025 World Sailing Annual Conference when the federation recognized the X15 as the first-ever One Design World Sailing Wingfoil Class. More so, the X15 comes from Starboard, the builder of the iQFOiL which is the Olympic windsurf equipment.
“The X-15 Class represents a perfect blend of innovation, accessibility, and performance,” said Starboard founder Svein Rasmussen. “Its recognition as a World Sailing Class cements wingfoiling’s place within the global sailing community. Our main objective is to grow sailing through engagement with the over 8000 sailing clubs globally.”
