Who will be the best baller in sailing?

Published on March 12th, 2026

It was in 1988 when a college hoops pool between a bunch of friends in Annapolis first got traction, each trying to prove they knew something about the College Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament. The pool, known as Scuttleball, lives on.

The 2026 edition is nearly here as 68 teams will get selected on March 15, the first round begins on March 19, and the Championship game is on April 6 in Indianapolis, IN.

As we annually ask, “Who will be the best baller in sailing?” Here’s some recent history:

Meet the best baller in sailing
Kathy Alven wins 2024 Scuttleball
Buttons Padin wins 2023 Scuttleball
• Winners: David Krupka (2022) and Arthur Libby (2021)
Scuttleball 2020 is cancelled

There’s no entry fee and no knowledge is necessary. Selections can be made based on expert opinion, or you can make your choices. Last year, with over 34 million entrants submitted across online platforms,  all brackets were busted by the end of the first weekend. Everybody can fail and still win.

The 2026 winner receives personal bragging rights and recognition in Scuttlebutt Sailing News. Registration is open, and you have until no later than five (5) minutes prior to the start of the first round of the Tournament on March 19 to submit your picks.
