Seahorse Sailor of the Month

Published on September 3rd, 2026

Seahorse magazine hosts a monthly poll to recognize recent achievement, and Scuttlebutt is leaning in for the October 2026 vote to support North American interests:

SYDNEY SMALL (USA)
Small by name, maybe, but big by her recent results. Well on the way to an ILCA campaign for 2032, Small topped out the US Junior Women’s Singlehanded Championship which were raced in 15-20kt breezes in Corpus Christi, Texas. Interestingly, for a junior event like this, no private coaching was permitted, all competitors instead benefiting from shared access to two US Sailing coaches who were provided for both a pre-race clinic as well as the regatta itself.

ERIK SCHEIDT (BRA)
Sailing is going ‘Hollywood’ right now with great young sailors following closely in the footsteps of their great parents. Scheidt the younger sailed solidly from start to finish and never looked like ending the week as anything other than ILCA 6 Youth World Champion. Dad Robert of course already has eight Laser world title to his name, plus two gold medals in the class to go with his three medals in the Stars. So setting-up each day should have been relatively straightforward.
