Charity eSailing race in Vendée Globe

Published on October 29th, 2020

World Sailing, the World Sailing Trust, and Virtual Regatta have partnered for the launch of the World Sailing Trust Challenge ‘Race for Change’ within the forthcoming Vendée Globe eSailing race.

The challenge, the first of its kind, will be held on Virtual Regatta Offshore for the duration of the real-life race, with Virtual Regatta pledging to donate a portion of the proceeds to the Trust to support safeguarding the planet and the future of the sport.

The World Sailing Trust, set up by World Sailing to catalyze change, has three broad areas of work which aim to support the development of sailing and protect the waters our sport depends on. To find out more about the Trust and opportunities to support, click here.

“The Vendée Globe is an incredible race, and I can say that as I’ve done it!” said Dee Caffari MBE, Chair of the World Sailing Trust. “It’s great that we can all vicariously take part through the Virtual Regatta version of this race.

“I’m all the more delighted that we at the World Sailing Trust are working together with World Sailing and Virtual Regatta on the ‘Race for Change’. We are looking forward to seeing people competing virtually in our custom boat.

“The race in Virtual Regatta allows you to compete against the actual sailors; it’s a great way to test your tactics in the real wind conditions up against the professional sailors. So, fair winds, and I’ll see you on the racecourse.”

The race starts on November 8 at the same time as the real-life Vendée Globe race start, but players can login now.

The password to enter the race is ‘WST2020’. Using this will grant you access to a custom branded World Sailing Trust and World Sailing boat.

Details on how to enter are provided here:

In addition, there are prizes up for grabs from World Sailing and their partners. Virtual Regatta are offering a year-long VIP pass subscription for select achievements in the game. In addition to the bespoke boat you will receive, Virtual Regatta are giving a limited number of full packs to the first 50 participants. This full pack provides loads of added features in the game to enhance the racing experience and is a must-have for all eSailors looking to aim for the podium.

Over a million players are expected for the Vendée Globe. You can play Virtual Regatta Offshore now on DesktopiOSAndroid.
