A1R and WASZP: A new era for foiling
Published on November 20th, 2025
The North American WASZP Class Association announced a new strategic partnership with America One Racing (A1R), marking a major step forward for foiling development in North America. Starting January 1, 2026, this collaboration will bring world-class coaching, professional-level training systems, and athlete-development expertise directly into the WASZP pathway creating a comprehensive and accessible foiling pipeline from first flights to the professional stage.
The WASZP has rapidly become a global standard for accessible foiling and talent development. Built for affordability, durability, and equal performance, the one-design class allows sailors to progress based purely on skill and not equipment advantage.
With multiple sail sizes, a strong youth-to-masters structure, and an expanding international circuit, the WASZP bridges the gap between grassroots foiling and professional racing. By building core foiling, tactical, and technical skills, the WASZP provides an ideal foundation for sailors aspiring to advance into broader high-performance and professional sailing arenas.
America One Racing (A1R) brings decades of experience in high-performance sailing, athlete development, and program design. Through this partnership, A1R will share its proven coaching methodologies and long-term development expertise to help strengthen the Class’s coaching structure and athlete pathway. By integrating top-level coaching, professional training methodologies, and a focus on sustainable athlete growth, A1R will help ensure that every sailor in the program benefits from world-class knowledge, structure, and guidance, while maintaining the Class’s inclusive and accessible spirit.
“The WASZP Class has become one of the most exciting and accessible foiling platforms in the world,” said Leandro Spina, Executive Performance Director at A1R. “Supporting this Class means investing in the future of professional sailing, and ensuring that young athletes have the coaching, structure, and support needed for long-term success.”
The North American WASZP Class will appoint team leaders and operate a multi-stage development program guided by A1R’s coaching philosophy and performance standards, ensuring consistent progression from youth foiling to elite competition.

Implementation & Program Delivery
Program delivery will be led by the North American WASZP Class, working closely with development partners including A1R and WeCANFoil. This partnership model ensures that resources, coaching, and education are scaled across regions, creating cross-border opportunities while maintaining alignment with world-class performance standards. (Note: the program is led by the Class, with A1R and WeCANFoil acting as strategic supporters and contributors.)
“Our mission at FOILFAST is to build the strongest foiling community in North America and that means investing in people, pathways, and performance,” said Nicholas Draper, FOILFAST. “This partnership elevates our sailors, accelerates development, and strengthens the entire foiling ecosystem across the U.S. and Canada.”
