2014 Audi Melges 20 Miami Winter Series Rocks On

Miami, FL – Thirty-five Audi Melges 20s have assembled in Miami, FL at the Winter Regatta, the ultimate continuation of the 2014 Miami Winter Series. Friday, registration day, a simply beautiful and warm day served as a preparation period of practice, tuning and just simply getting the team ready to race. The fleet, besides being predominantly comprised of U.S. teams also presents tough competition from Brazil, Canada, France and Italy.

Two days of racing commences on Saturday with light breezes forecasted. Awards will be presented on Sunday afternoon immediately following racing.

Returning centerstage is none other than newly crowned World Champion John Taylor aboard Ninkasi, however not with his entire winning crew. Bowman Joey Mello rejoins the team, along with Taylor’s gorgeous daughter Alex aboard. Rhonda Joyce’s Batteries Not Required holds on steady to Melges 24 World Champion crewmember Matt Woodworth on bow and welcomes in Terry Line to the team. Kevin Jewett and Dan Morris will accompany Lake Geneva based Mike Keefe on Flannel. Erwan Le Gall’s Le Rascator is on the hunt for some ‘go-fast’ magic with Charlie Smythe and Sammy Loughborough as crew. Skip Shapiro plans to crank it up with Dave Scott and Ethan Bixby on Makaira. Terry Hutchinson will join Alessandro Rombelli’s STIG program as tactician for the first time ever. Eighteen-year old Clay Broussard will confidently handle his father’s Audi Melges 20 Velocity.

Playing the Corinthian field is John Brown’s Blind Squirrel, and Eric Wynsma’s Superfly from the U.S.A. Canada proudly holds its own with representation from Jim Pearson’s Slippery, Frank McLaughlin’s CAN-254 and Paul Currie’s Wild Deuces.

The overall Miami Winter Series challenge is full on with Russ Lucas’ Shimmer in first place overall, followed by Tony Tabb’s YOLO. Marcus Eagan aboard Cajun Underwriting rounds out the top three. View The Full 2014 Miami Winter Series Ranking
