Wind shortage at Landsailing World Championships

Published on July 13th, 2014

Smith Creek Playa, NV (July 13, 2014) – Light winds insufficient to start racing prevailed for hours throughout the opening day at the Landsailing World Championships. When the race committee officially called off racing for the fleet of 40+ International 5.6 Mini Yachts, of course, the wind arrived 10 minutes later.

At that point, the seemingly endless “sucker puffs” that had enticed the eager land yachters out of their camp, only to strand them out on the dry lake, finally turned into sustainably sailable wind that lasted for an hour or more and was then enjoyed as practice sailing by all classes.

For the coming days, the race committee has vowed to hold out for wind until it is sailable until there clearly is no possibility of racing.

Race dates: International 5.6 Mini, July 13 to 15
Race dates: All others, July 15 (pm) to 19
