Gilmour tops Snow to win Governor’s Cup

Published on July 19th, 2014

Corona del Mar, CA (July 19, 2014) – In what may prove to be the start of a lifelong rivalry, 2013 Governor’s Cup champion Sam Gilmour (AUS) beat out Nevin Snow (USA) to defend his title. After the two recently faced each other in the World University Match Racing Championships in Italy, with Snow edging out Gilmour in the finals, Gilmour held the edge this week (July 15-19).

Gilmour beat Snow in the Qualifying Round Robin and again in the Quarter Final Round Robin. In their Final Match, Snow jumped ahead to lead 2-1, needing only one more win to take the title. However, Gilmour fought back to win the final two races to take the title.

Gilmour and Snow will meet again as they represent their countries at the 2014 ISAF Youth Match Racing World Championship in Helsinki, Finland on July 23-27.

In the Petit Final, Christophe Killian (USA) topped Will Holz (USA) 2-1 for the win.

The 48th Annual Governor’s Cup International Junior Match Race Championship hosted twelve international and US teams at Balboa Yacht Club.
