Andron leads International Masters Regatta

Published on October 23rd, 2015

San Diego, CA (October 23, 2015) – The San Diego Yacht Club’s annual International Masters Regatta officially kicked off today in San Diego Bay. For the twelve teams racing J/105s, consistent wind at 8-10 knots, gusting to 15-18, created a beautiful platform for racing in front of the downtown skyline.

The first race started right after 1:00 pm with Malin Burnham dominating the pace to win, followed by Sandy Purdon in second and Jon Andron in third. After a boat rotation on the floating dock, the competitors were quickly ready for Race 2. Jon Andron had the early lead at the first weather mark, but Dennis Durgan took over the lead when the fleet rounded the leeward mark. Andron was able to take back the lead for the win. Gary Jobson followed in second and Augie Diaz in third.

A collision between three of the boats halted racing for the day, with repairs needed to continue the series. Racing resumes Saturday and concludes Sunday.
