First deaf person to sail single-handed around the world

A Scottish teacher has become the first deaf person to sail single-handed around the world past all five capes. Gerry Hughes, 55, from Glasgow, sailed from Troon in his Beneteau 42s7 Quest III, on September 1 last year, completing the route on May 7. His solo-circumnavigation lasted eight months and covered more than 32,000 miles,

New 40-foot circumnavigation record

The World Sailing Speed Record Council announced the establishment of a new around the world singlehanded record in the 40-foot division. Guo Chuan (CHN) sailing the yacht Qing Dao arrived in Qingdao, China to complete the route on April 4, 2013 in an elapsed time of 137 days, 20 hours, 01 minutes, 57 seconds. Aboard
