Royal Canadian Yacht Club Defends Canada’s Cup

Published on September 13th, 2016

Toronto, ONT (September 13, 2016) – After a lack of wind on day three kept the Canada’s Cup teams off the race course, 5 to 7 knot winds today saw Defender Royal Canadian Yacht Club seal their victory in the 24th edition of the Canada’s Cup.

Defense skipper Bryan Gooderham and his Hollandia team entered the day with 3-1 lead and needed just one race to take the best of seven series over skipper Adam Burns and Challenger Team Yquem (Youngstown Yacht Club). Yquem had the early lead but Hollandia got passed on the first run and never looked back.

The 24th edition of the Canada’s Cup, first competed for in 1896, was held in 8 Meter boats on September 10-14 between defender Royal Canadian Yacht Club (Toronto, ONT) and challenger of record Sodus Bay Yacht Club (Sodus Point, NY).
