Marina del Rey, CA (May 19, 2013) – Three seconds – that was the difference between engraving Pyewacket or Taxi Dancer on the California Cup trophy. In the final race of the maxi sled series, Roy P. Disney’s Pyewacket corrected out three seconds ahead of the defending Cal Cup champion Taxi Dancer, sailed by Jim Yabsley, Tom Parker and Dick Compton. That threw the two boats into a tie, with Pyewacket, sailing for California YC winning the tie-breaker and the 2013 California Cup.

For the first time in the 50 year history of this event, there were two fleets racing for the Cal Cup, with the competitive eight-boat Farr 40 fleet also sailing for this prestigious prize. Jeff Shew and Bill Durant from Long Beach YC showed excellent speed and fleet control to earn them a two point edge over Steve Murphy’s JoAnn – which insured that their Viva La Viva would also have its name engraved on the California Cup trophy for 2013.
