Tony Castro to design entry for C-Class trophy

Published on May 21st, 2013

Tony Castro yacht design has announced that 12 months ago it joined forces with Optimal to create a Portuguese challenge for the C-Class trophy (formerly known as the Little Americas’ Cup) to compete in Falmouth, UK later in September. Optimal is a company involved in high-tech Structural Analysis and works for several Formula One Teams, McLaren, Airbus, etc. This week Cascais Mayor, Carlos Carreiras, announced the “Cascais Team 2013” and its challenge to the public.

“This is indeed a big challenge for us,” said Tony Castro, “entering into a new racing class and allowing us to flex our muscles with new design technologies like CFD and FEA and also an interesting collaboration with the guys from the British challenge – Invictus Team.

“Despite the high technologies nowadays current in Cruising yacht design that keep us busy, this c-class by virtue of having literally no rules allows us a lot of freedom and opportunity to delve into materials and solutions not allowed in other racing classes, not even the America’s Cup.

“This challenge puts us back working on Racing Boat Design areas we like so much, and hopefully will bring us some success to add to the multiple World Championships of a few years ago.”
