America’s Cup Pavilion ready for launch

Published on May 30th, 2013

The America’s Cup Pavilion will open on Friday when indie-icons Imagine Dragons perform the first of a series of summer concerts at the new, temporary venue on the Embarcadero in San Francisco.

The waterfront venue is located in what will be the America’s Cup Park at Piers 27/29 during the Summer of Racing and the Concert Series is an important component of the America’s Cup experience in San Francisco.

“The America’s Cup Pavilion and Concert Series will provide an important entertainment element to the America’s Cup,” said Stephen Barclay, the CEO of the America’s Cup at a small ‘curtain-raising’ event on Wednesday night.

“The Olympics has its Cultural Olympiad and the Super Bowl its halftime show and now the America’s Cup has the America’s Cup Concert Series. Beyond the concerts, this Pavilion will also be a focal point on race days for all to watch racing on large screens. We will also stage our Opening Ceremony and Prizegivings and other race viewing activities here.”

The America’s Cup Pavilion and Concert Series is the result of a partnership between the America’s Cup and Live Nation. Aaron Siuda, vice president of Live Nation Northern California says the temporary structure is unique in the city.

“It’s San Francisco’s first-ever outdoor waterfront amphitheater,” Siuda said. “It’s a wonderful venue.”

Imagine Dragons is the first act to play the 9,000 seat America’s Cup Pavilion at a sold-out show on Friday night. Sting follows – another sold-out performance – on Sunday night.
