PHOTO: Sun sets on another season

Published on September 23rd, 2013

From David Elliott:  “This photo was taken during our last Wednesday Night Race of the 2013 season, on September 18th, on Conception Bay, NL.  The wind was up, blowing 20-22 kts, and I think the highest I saw was 23.5 kts True just before reaching the windward mark, with a pretty good sea running.  It is difficult for our evening racing season to extend any longer, with sunset between 1900 and 1930 at this time of year at about 47.5 deg N.  It was a fantastic way to end the end the season.  We were late at the start by several minutes waiting for a crewmember who got tied up in traffic due to road construction.  However, we clawed our way back into the race by the windward mark, by staying close to the shoreline and out of the bigger waves outside.  Loved it!  Photo by Greg Locke (www.straylight.ca).”
