Veteran returns to Volvo Ocean Race

(April 1, 2014) – North Sails president Ken Read has decided to take a sabbatical from North Sails effective immediately to become the onboard reporter and chef for Charlie Enright’s VOR entry Alvimedica.

“It’s an honor to have someone like Kenny – a two-time VOR veteran, America’s Cup commentator, and sailing world champion – onboard Alvimedica for the upcoming race,” Enright said. “And we are excited to be the only boat with a personal chef – we can’t wait to try his famous giant waffles and omelets.”

Read said his decision to join Alvimedica was an easy one to make. “After my stint as an America’s Cup commentator last year, I think live broadcast and reporting has become my calling. This is totally a good fit for me and Charlie’s team. I’ve only been around the world twice but both times were a piece of cake, which by the way, I am eager to make.”

Read also looks forward to shedding the skipper responsibilities.”Being in charge is really overrated; it’s actually a pain being responsible for everyone on board. After two laps, I figured out what the sweet jobs are, and this is it. Honestly, I can’t wait to get out there to do daily live reports, and have some recipes up my sleeve that Team Alvimedica is sure to love. This is a win-win for everyone.”
