New Around Britain and Ireland Outright World Record

(August 21, 2014) – The World Sailing Speed Record Council has ratified the establishment of a new Around Britain and Ireland Outright World Record. Set by Sidney Gavignet (FRA) and a crew of 6 onboard the MOD 70 trimaran Oman Sail-Musandam, they covered the 1773 nm distance on August 11-14, 2014 to set a new elapsed time of 3 days 3 hours 32 minutes and 36 seconds (avg. speed: 23.48 knots). The previous record of 3d 3h 49m 14s by Loick Peyron (FRA) and crew on Banque Populaire 5 was set in July 2011. Source.
