Diaz and Tocke win Snipe Midwinters

Twenty-two teams competed in the Snipe Midwinter Championship, hosted by Clearwater Yacht Club March 15-17 in Clearwater, FL. With three bullets in the final three races, Augie Diaz and Kathleen Tocke (USA) closed strong to take the title over Ernesto Rodriguez and Eddie Mitzas (USA) by 2 points. Sailed over three picture-perfect days of balmy temperatures and 6 to 10 knot breezes, this year’s 9-race event featured sailors from 7 countries.

Snipe World Champion runners-up Luis Soubie and Diego Lipszyc (ARG) were third, Peter Commette of and Lara Dallman-Weiss (USA) were fourth, with Evert McLaughlin and Alexandra Damley-Strnad (CAN) in fifth.

This was the 77th time Clearwater Yacht Club had hosted the championship. Complete results.

The Snipe Winter Circuit now travels to Miami for the 40th Annual Don Q Regatta, another three-day event on March 20-22, after which the fleet will move across the Gulf Stream to Nassau, Bahamas where Snipe sailors will compete in two events on March 25-29.
