Judge releases boat, orders sides to settle America’s Cup dispute

Published on March 17th, 2015

San Francisco, CA (March 17, 2015) – A federal judge has ordered attorneys for America’s Cup defender Oracle Team USA and Joe Spooner to meet during the next two weeks to discuss a settlement of the fired sailor’s lawsuit, reports the Associated Press. Spooner was fired in January after he asked for a raise to help cover the cost of relocating to Bermuda where Oracle will  defend the America’s Cup in 2017. He is seeking at least $725,000. On March 9, marshals seized Oracle’s AC 45 catamaran in response to Spooner’s lien, but yesterday’s decision has released the boat. Additional information here.
