Dominant day at Laser US Nationals

Brant Beach, NJ (July 22, 2015) – Sailing conditions on the second day of the Laser US Nationals were significantly better than yesterday, allowing for five races to be completed in the Full Rig, Radial, and 4.7 fleets. Leaders in all three fleets have put in dominant performances, with Robert Davis (CAN) building a 22 point margin in the Full Rig (55 boats), Scott Rasmussen (USA) ahead by 16 point in the Radial (127 boats), and Blaire McCarthy (USA) winning four of five race to lead by 3 points in the 4.7 (3 boats).
The Laser Class U.S. National Championship on July 21-24 is also being used for the U.S. Singlehanded Sailing Championships. Twelve races are planned for the Laser Full Rig and Laser Radial fleets on Little Egg Harbor Bay.
Awards for US Sailing’s U.S. Singlehanded Championships will be awarded to competitors meeting the eligibility rules for:
• George D. O’Day Trophy to the overall highest placing eligible male in Laser Full Rig.
• Helen Willis Hanley Trophy to the overall highest placing eligible female in Laser Radial.
• US Sailing medals will be awarded to the top three positions in each fleet.
