George Szabo wins CR914 US Nationals

The CR914 US National Championship attracted a notable field of 19 competitors on October 31-November 1 to San Diego, CA. Held on the Mission Bay Model Yacht Pond, sailors from California, Florida, Maryland, New York, and Oklahoma completed 25 races over two days.

After the first day the top 10 went into the Gold Fleet and the bottom 9 went into the Silver Fleet.

The racing was tight for the top spot in both fleets with local George Szabo winning his second National Championship beating perennial top finisher, David Ramos from Annapolis by 5 points. Another local, Bill Hardesty, finished third over Geoff Becker also from Annapolis. There were five former National Champions in the regatta.

In the Silver Fleet, Charles “IV” McNamara from Tulsa Oklahoma finished 3 points over Sandy Purdon for the top spot. Sandy won 1st place in the Masters (over 65) Division. Both division winners were decide on the final race of 25 races.
