Optimists Worlds Starts in Portugal

Vilamoura, Portugal (June 26, 2016) – Swiss Max Wallenberg is the first leader of the Optimist World Championship 2016 that started today and will finish on the 4th of July in Vilamoura, Portugal. Germans Roko Mohr and Adrian Surroca are 2nd and 3rd.

Light winds on the first day of racing. The 255 sailors from 59 countries completed the two races scheduled for today with the wind blowing from SE, 4/5 knots on the first and 7/8 knots on the second.

The fleet is split in 4 groups and the Portuguese Beatriz Gago is the first between the girls (30th provisional overall). Helena Wolff, from Denmark in 2nd (35th provisional overall) and Belgian Ingeborg Bultynck is 3rd (58th p.o.)

Highlights of the day also to the “home boy” Guilherme Cavaco (2nd and 9th in the races and 14th overall) and Angola’s Osvaldo Dinis da Gama that was 4th on the second of the day 1, and was in the lead most of the time and is 44th provisional overall.

Two more races are scheduled for tomorrow at 12:00.
