Perfect Start for Inaugural J/70 Corinthian US Nationals

Published on October 21st, 2016

Annapolis, MD (October 21, 2016) – Mother Nature welcomed 44 boats to the inaugural J/70 Corinthian US National Championship with “chamber of commerce” conditions of sunny skies and winds up to 12-14 knots on the Chesapeake Bay.

Hosted by Eastport Yacht Club, this ground-breaking event has brought together all-amateur teams for three days of competition and the honor of being the first-ever Corinthian US National Champion.

Working his way to that goal today was local Peter McChesney who notched a 2,2,1 for just 5 points. Jack Franco won two races, but added a sixth-place tally, landing him in second place overall at 8 points. Jenn and Ray Wulff stand in third with 11 points.

Franco got things going with the day’s first bullet, followed by McChesney and the Wulffs. Behind Franco in race two were McChesney and Henry Filter. McChesney secured the day’s overall advantage by winning the last meeting, as John Wilsey and the Liebel/Rubin/Walsh/Britts gang rounded out the top three.

Racing continues through Sunday, October 23.
