Growing the Green Boating Guide
Published on April 20th, 2017
In honor of Earth Day 2016, Sailors for the Sea launched their Green Boating Guide! Since then it has been utilized by over 10,000 boaters and is quickly becoming the go-to guide for boaters to reduce their environmental impact.
For Earth Day 2017 on April 22, Sailors for the Sea has added two new Green Boating Guide topics chosen added based on consumer feedback. We have done our research and are launching Sunscreens and Spring Preparation as two new topics for Earth Day!
Sunscreen: Before you hit the high seas, you may be wondering what type of sunscreen to buy to protect your skin from the sun’s powerful rays. Did you know that some SPF products are harmful not only for you, but also the environment? Some sunscreens contain chemical additives that can be toxic when they wash off in the ocean and have been reported to cause coral bleaching. Details.
Spring Preparation: Winter is over and it’s to take our boats out of storage! Annual preparation and cleaning is a key opportunity to prevent problems before you hit the water. But it’s also a great time to go green on your boat. The Spring Preparation section gives boaters a 5 step check list to make small changes in the way they launch their boat, that will have a major impact on their waterways. Details.
