Eight Bells: Bob Sessions

Published on April 23rd, 2017

Bob Sessions, age 49, of Lakewood, Ohio passed peacefully with family at his bedside on April 11, 2017.

Bob grew up sailing Thistles at The Cleveland Yachting Club, represented CYC at the Sears Cup Finals to a 4th place finish (1982), won the inaugural Thistle Jr. National Championship (1985), raced collegiately at Boston University (Class of 1990), and crewed on winning teams at the T-10 Nationals, the Roberts Race, and the Falcon Cup.

In the last decade, Bob held leadership positions with the Edgewater YC Jr. Race Team to help it become one of Lake Erie’s leading youth sailing programs. Friends and family remember Bob as a selfless promoter of the sport, a passion for cruising the Great Lakes, and a keen interest for classic wood sailboats.

Bob is survived by his mother Sarah Reid, loving wife Kate, daughters Mary & Jane (and namesake of his Thistle Mary Jane), his son Bobby Sessions (Marquette University), brothers Tom Sessions (Cleveland YC) and Matthew Sessions (San Francisco YC), and sister Elizabeth Langfeldt (Lake Champlain YC).

The family wishes to thank Gary Jobson and everyone supporting The Leukemia Cup Regatta Series in the ongoing fight to offer the cancer community hope for a healthy and long-lasting future.
