March Madness, survival style

Published on March 29th, 2018

As Major League Baseball now gets underway, there remains two tournaments to complete. The experts expect to see #1 seed Villanova against #3 seed Michigan advancing to the Finals of the 2018 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament on April 2, but first they must get past #1 seed Kansas and #11 seed Loyola-Chicago on March 30.

But more important than a bunch of ‘student-athletes’ cutting down the nets will be who tops the rank in the Scuttleball – the tournament pool where sailors go to ball.

Now in its 30th year, Scuttleball has brought the sailing community together to focus on something not related to sailing. This was an easy task as 100% of the proceeds this year will go to helping our friend Jim Hahn from Ronstan who suffered a catastrophic accident that left him paralyzed from the waist down. We rock!

Thanks to industry partners Ronstan, Harken, Lewmar, and Spinlock, the pool’s podium gets some love too. Will Kris Matthews retain the top position for victory, thus winning the $1500 Ronstan gift certificate, instant rock-star status, and bragging rights at any regatta in the world? Will Smitty remain in DFL, earning public humiliation and a free lifetime subscription to Scuttlebutt?

Also approaching the finish line is the Greatest American Sailing Regatta, an event where US Sailing assembled 16 of the most popular sailing regattas in the U.S. and seeded the events in a tournament bracket.

With events advancing by fan vote, the Semi-Finals round has seen the Chicago Mackinac Race crushing the Annapolis NOOD whereas the matchup between Charleston Race Week and the Newport Bermuda Race may go down to the buzzer.

This round of voting ends March 30. To vote… click here.
