When Only Two Remain
Published on April 1st, 2018
With April comes the smell of fresh clipped grass and the launch of another sailing season, but first we must close out two of the off season tournaments that distract us during the waning days of winter.
From the 64 teams in the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament, only two remain, with the top seven in the Scuttleball pool having correctly selected both Michigan and Villanova would be competing for the title on April 2.
Will Nova continue to slay three-pointers all night long, or can the Wolverines slow the flow with their epic defense? Either Villanova wins its second title in three years and stamps its claim to blue blood status, or Michigan (a 6.5-point underdog) pulls off an upset.
From the current Scuttleball results we have the top ten and the team they think (or thought?) will cut down the nets on April 2:
1. Kris Matthews – Villanova
2. Rob Beach – Villanova
3. J Leary – Michigan
4. Frank Vella – Michigan
5. Sue Mikulski – Villanova
6. Sheelah Quinn – Michigan
7. Larry MacDonald – Michigan
8. Peter Manley – Virginia
9. Robin Team – Villanova
10. Fletcher C. Bauman – Villanova
But this isn’t the only tournament as the Greatest American Sailing Regatta has now reduced the field of 16 of the most popular sailing regattas in the U.S. down to the top two.
We witnessed how the Chicago Mackinac Race crushed the Annapolis NOOD in its Semi-Final match while the Newport Bermuda Race edged out Charleston Race Week in its pairing.
This leave us with two of the great distance races as #5 seed Chicago Mac faces #3 seed Newport Bermuda, with the early support going hard for the freshwater classic.
