Joy Ride wins Vic-Maui 2018

(July 17, 2018) – The last two boats from the Victoria to Maui International Yacht Race finished yesterday, completing the 2308nm course that had nine starters and one retirement. Joy Ride, a J-122e owned by John Murkowski and sailing for Seattle Yacht Club, has taken the Overall title and Class 1 honors ahead of Bob Strong’s Morris Ocean Series 45 Firefly which took line honors and finished 2nd Overall with Christof Marti’s Beneteau First 40.7 Salient winning Class 2 and taking 3rd Overall.

Background: The Victoria to Maui International Yacht Race, hosted by the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club and the Lahaina Yacht Club, got underway July 1 for the nine teams entered in the 2018 edition. The record for the 2308 nm course from British Columbia to Hawaii of 08:09:17:50 was set in 2016 by Gavin Brackett’s TP52 Valkyrie.
