29er Canadian Championship 2018

Published on August 6th, 2018

Galen Richardson (Royal Canadian Yacht Club) and Jake Adair (Kingston Yacht Club/Royal Canadian Yacht Club) won the Canadian 29er Championship, hosted by Kingston Yacht Club on August 3-6 in Kingston, ON.

Galen and Jake have been sailing together for just over a year and have placed 2nd at the Canada Summer Games, 2nd at US Nationals last weekend and clinched Sail Canada’s Youth Championship last year in Nova Scotia.

Second place finishers were Thomas and William Staples from Royal St. Lawrence Yacht Club with a score of 49 points and Aidan Chiu and Walker Moffat (Royal Canadian Yacht Club) were third with 53 points. Top female boat finishing 4th overall was Audrey Staples and Caterina Kunz (Royal St. Lawrence Yacht Club).

Weather conditions for the event were light for the first couple of days but improved with winds reaching 12-15 knots on the final day. Unfortunately, the event did not get the usual Kingston thermal. Sailors are hoping for those conditions next week as they compete in the CORK/North American Championships in Kingston August 14-17, 2018.
