First Phase to Qualify for Tokyo 2020

The Sailing World Championships, held once every four years, is the largest global sailing competition that has the participation of all ten Olympic events. The 2018 edition, aside from determining world titles, would also be the first and largest country qualifier for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games with 40% of the places being decided.

With 101 of the 250 entries for Tokyo on the table, here are the countries that have qualified from the competition held August 2-12 in Aarhus, Denmark:

Sixty teams representing 25 nations were vying for the 8 entries for Tokyo 2020. There will be a total of 20 entries in this event at Tokyo 2020.

The countries to have earned entrance are subject to final notification from World Sailing following the event to the relevant Member National Authority / National Olympic Committee. After a country qualifies for the Olympics, it can then choose the manner in which it selects the athlete(s) to represent the country.
