Legal action against alleged sex abuse

Published on January 9th, 2019

(January 9, 2019) – The mother of a teenage boy living in Suffolk County of Long Island (NY) has filed a lawsuit against an elite sailing camp on Cape Cod, alleging her son was sexually abused by another camper, and that camp officials failed to prevent the abuse.

The victim was allegedly sexually assaulted in the summer of 2016 at Cape Cod Sea Camps in Brewster (MA) when he was 13 and the alleged assailant, identified in court papers as PW, was 14, according to the complaint filed January 4 in Suffolk Superior Court.

The complaint names the camp, which was established in 1922, camp officials, PW, and PW’s parents as defendants. The camp “failed to take reasonable steps to prevent Plaintiff from being sexually abused, failed to maintain the premises of the Camp in a safe condition, failed to protect Plaintiff while in attendance at the Camp, and failed to protect Plaintiff from additional harm,” it states.
