Optimist US Team Race Midwinters

Published on January 21st, 2019

Youth sailors from across the USA competed in the Optimist US Team Race Midwinters on January 19-21 in St. Petersburg, FL. Cooler temperatures and 8 to 15 knots of breeze set the stage for three days of team racing.

On Saturday, sailors completed one full round robin on the Alpha and Bravo courses allowing the fleets to be split into Gold and Silver Fleets for the remainder of the event. Sunday’s cold front brought big breeze but racing was held along the Downtown St. Petersburg Waterfront. Sailors bundled up Monday for the final day of racing, with temperatures starting out in the 40s.

Twenty-three teams completed 277 races with Coral Reef Yacht Club Spectra winning followed by Lauderdale Yacht Club 1 and LISOT Black.
