Registration is now open for US Sailing’s premier junior women’s sailing events: the 2019 U.S. Junior Women’s Singlehanded Championship and U.S. Junior Women’s Doublehanded Championship.

The U.S. Junior Women’s Singlehanded Championship is an open event open that includes two days of clinic and three days of championship racing in two fleets: the Laser 4.7 and the Laser Radial. No private coaching is allowed, instead US Sailing Level 3 Certified coaches are provided to lead world-class training and coach all competitors to enhance the experience, sailing skills, and competitive sportsmanship of the group.

In 1980, C. Thomas Clagett, Jr., donated a perpetual trophy in the memory of his wife, Nancy Leiter Clagett. Nancy was an exceptional sailor and a tough competitor who displayed her sportsmanship qualities in everything she did throughout her life.

In 1995 Tom started the companion regatta to this event, U.S.Doublehanded Championship sailed for the Ida Lewis Trophy, currently known as the U.S. Junior Women’s Doublehanded Championship.

The U.S. Junior Women’s Doublehanded Championship is an open event open that includes two days of clinic and three days of championship racing in two fleets: the Club 420 and the 29er. No private coaching is allowed, instead US Sailing Level 3 Certified coaches are provided to lead world-class training and coach all competitors to enhance the experience, sailing skills, and competitive sportsmanship of the group.

The family continues Tom’s dedication and commitment to Junior Women’s sailing through C. Thomas Clagett Trust sponsorship of this clinic and regatta. This support is intended to encourage young American women to enhance their sailing ability, with emphasis on sportsmanship, by providing the opportunity to compete in national-level competition with guidance from high-level coaching.

New for 2019, the Laser 4.7 fleet has been added to the U.S. Junior Women’s Singlehanded Championship, and the 29er fleet is now included in the U.S. Junior Women’s Doublehanded Championship.
