Published on August 9th, 2019

Cowes, England (August 9, 2019) – With a formidable forecast for the penultimate event of the inaugural SailGP circuit on August 10 and 11, the decision was made to cancel racing for the first day of the competition.

In a statement issued from SailGP:
Due to forecasted severe adverse weather, and in order to ensure the safety of all athletes, staff, spectators and guests, Cowes SailGP will not proceed with racing on Saturday, August 10.

Experts are calling for winds reaching gale force, and the national weather service has issued a yellow weather warning.

We look forward to showcasing SailGP’s European debut on Sunday, with racing starting at 3 p.m. local. We are currently exploring options to further maximize Sunday’s program and fan experience. Additional details will follow.

This is the first cancellation for SailGP, as the previous three events had sufficient conditions for the schedule. Ticket refunds were being issued per the Cowes SailGP Ticket Refund Policy.
