Life Jacket Maintenance

Published on August 12th, 2019

US Sailing has provided free access to seven videos on care and maintenance of inflatable lifejackets. These videos, part of the US Sailing Sanctioned Offshore Online Safety at Sea course, give viewers some fundamentals on how to inspect and care for an inflatable lifejacket.

Like any piece of equipment, it is important to understand how the integral parts of the inflators work and what you need to do on a regular basis to help make sure that your equipment will work as intended when you need it to.

Hands on experience with your inflatable lifejacket is invaluable: knowing how the oral tube inflator works; where and how the manual pull cord operates; Automatic inflators; re-packing and more.

The video tutorials are narrated by Chuck Hawley, one of the most experienced Safety at Sea Moderators and a long-time offshore sailor. To view the video series, click here.
