Eugene Schmitt leads Sunfish Worlds

Published on September 16th, 2019

Bonaire (September 16, 2019) – The opening day of the 2019 Sunfish World Championship is in the books with Eugene Schmitt (USA) leading the 69-boat fleet after four races.

With lots of sunshine and 8-14 winds, reading where the puffs were coming from and making the smartest tactical decisions were the key. The Race Committee has been on its toes with multiple UFD finishes in the first two races and three Black Flags in the third. The results indicate that everyone behaved themselves in the final race of the day!

After posting a 3-8-6-1, Schmitt is atop the leader board with 18 points, holding a 6-point lead over Renzo Sanguineti (PER) whose 7-10-2-5 was nearly as consistent. In third is Simon Gomez Ortiz (COL) with 30 points after a win in Race 3 and a 21st in the day’s finale.

A maximum of twelve races will be held from September 16 to 20, with a reserve day on September 19.
