Colombia, Peru lead Sunfish Youth and Master Worlds

Published on September 23rd, 2019

Bonaire (September 23, 2019) – The Sunfish Youth and Master World Championship began today their 3-day event for 41 competitors, with four races completed in tricky light winds.

2018 Sunfish Youth World Champion Simon Gomez Ortiz of Colombia (above) came out strong amid the 20-boat fleet from seven countries, posting a 1-2-1-2 to lead by six points over Fernanda San Roman of Peru, followed by Peruvian teammate Fernanda Higueras in third.

In a fleet of 22 Masters from seven different countries, Alex Zimmerman (PER) was more dominant with a 1-2-1-1 to lead by eight points over Jason Pigot (USA) who is tied with Sipke Stapert of Bonaire.

Two more days of sailing is scheduled for both fleets with the hope for the more traditional (stronger) Bonaire sea breezes rather than the light and shifty conditions of today.

Racing is on September 23-25.
