Qualifying continues at Optimist Worlds

Riva del Garda, Italy (July 3, 2021) – Second day of racing for the Optimist World Championship received the warm Ora wind from the South, with peaks up to 15 knots, to complete two races for each of the four qualifying fleets.

The ranking, after four races valid for qualifying purposes, is more open than ever with Thai Weka Bhanubandh, who won both races today in the blue fleet, leading the scoreboard. Behind him, the Brazilian Alex of Francesco Kuhl (today 5-2 in the green fleet) and the Lithuanian Erik Scheidt (winner of both races in the green fleet). Completing the top five are Gil Hackel (USA, 2-9 in the yellow fleet) and Kan Kachachuen (THA, 9-2 in the blue fleet).

Racing will resume tomorrow at 1:00pm, for the third and final day of qualifying, which will be followed by two days of Team World Championship and then the final stages of the individual World Championship.

With a maximum of five athletes per nation, there are three consecutive days of qualifying on July 2-4 that will divide the fleet into Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Emerald groups for the final stages, scheduled for July 7-9. On July 5-6, the participants will compete within their nation for the Team World Championship.
