2022 Optimist World Championship

The 2022 Optimist World Championship was held June 29-July 6 in Bodrum, Turkey. With the USA winning the Team Race title on July 2-3, 276 sailors from 61 countries sought the fleet racing world title. The 12-race series came down to the final race when Thailand’s Weka Bhanubandh got past the earlier leaders, finishing with a one point victory over James Pine (USA) with Italian Francesco Carrieri seven points off the lead in third. American Gil Hackel had top four finishes in seven races but couldn’t overcome four shockers, finishing 18th overall. – Details
