Utilizing the motion of the ocean

The windmill, located alongside a working farm to crush grain or pump water, had a certain charm. But while harnessing the wind for agricultural processes feels good, wind farms cluttering nature landscapes for electrical needs feels less good.

First it was hillsides, and now these wind turbines are in the ocean. If the precedent was set with oil rigs, using the wind does seem better than draining the earth. But what about utilizing the motion of the ocean? That’s coming now.

Sweden’s CorPower has announced “breakthrough” results from Atlantic Ocean testing of its full-scale floating generators, which cleverly time their motions to amplify smaller waves while protecting themselves against dangerous storm conditions. – Full report
